Settling In: Making a New Houston House Feel Like Home
Lifestyle · June 30, 2026 · 4 min read

Moving is one of life's bigger transitions, and transitions ask something of us emotionally, not just logistically. My coaching background shows up here more than anywhere else in my work.
Finish one room completely
Boxes everywhere can keep you in limbo for months. Choose one room — usually the bedroom — and finish it fully in the first week. Having a single calm space makes the rest of the unpacking far less heavy.
Build small anchors
- Find your grocery store, coffee spot, and walking route in the first two weeks.
- Introduce yourself to two neighbors — that's usually enough to feel connected.
- Put up art before you buy new furniture; familiarity beats newness.
- Keep one weekend completely unscheduled to simply be at home.
Give it a season
A house tends to feel like home somewhere around the first change of season — after you've lived through a Houston summer storm in it and everything still stands. Be patient with yourself before then.
Let's talk about your next move
Buying, selling, or simply weighing options — a short conversation usually brings a lot of clarity.
